[Our son] was born 795 grams and then dropped to about 570 grams. He had severe chronic lung disease, severe reflux and possible neurological problems from bleeding in the brain. He spent his first 6 months in the neonatal intensive care unit at Sha're Tzedek Hospital with a feeding tube and 24-hour oxygen support.
Then, after ten days at home he stopped eating and went back to the hospital. Six weeks later, he came home again. After one week, he caught a virus and spent another four weeks in Hadassah Hospital. Then he contracted pneumonia.
My wife and I were not managing and without our parents here we decided we had to move back to the States. I was panicking. Will my son make it? What happens if his lung collapses in mid-flight, or if he catches pneumonia, or even a cold? Am I doing the right thing? How will I manage everything in security with a kid with oxygen?
I will never be afraid to do another medical transfer. With Luxenberg it was like a vacation. They do everything for you! Yair the paramedic took care of my son the whole flight. It was really an amazing experience. I will be indebted to him and the doctor who escorted us for the rest of my life. The amazing love, care and professionalism cannot be duplicated.
